When I got to work this morning, my editor said she had some news for me.
"You won two SPJ awards!"
SPJ stand for Society of Professional Journalists. For the last two years, around January, my editor and I have gone through the stories we wrote during the past year and then submit them to the New Jersey chapter of the SPJ. The winners are announced sometime in May. Last year we found out on May 19--the day Star War Ep. III opened--that I had won the award for Outstanding Achievement by a First Year Reporter.
So, we had been waiting for the results since last week. This year, of course, they had to come later than usual. Fortunately, Dani and I had an AWESOME weekend (but that's another post) so I was distracted enough to forget about not getting the results last week.
Then I walked in this morning and found out I won two awards. One was for a feature writing piece I did on Speed Dating. The other was for a review I wrote about Star Wars Ep. III. These were actually two stories I wasn't expecting to win for--I thought the article I wrote about the night I spent riding around with the volunteer ambulance corp was a stronger piece. But hey, I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth.
